TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — To bring consumer protection education directly to Floridians, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is hosting eight Consumer Protection Fairs across Florida, beginning tomorrow, Aug. 15, through November.

“One of our top priorities is protecting Floridians and visitors from fraud, and these consumer protection fairs help educate consumers so than can avoid scams,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam.

As the state’s clearinghouse for consumer complaints, the department works diligently to educate the public, investigate complaints and provide mediation on behalf of consumers. In addition to key department information, other consumer protection entities and local organizations will participate.

Below is a list of the department’s upcoming Consumer Protection Fairs:

• Sept. 19: One Senior Place, 715 Douglas Ave., Altamonte Springs, Fla. 32714

• Oct. 13: Sun City Center Community Hall- 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd., Sun City Center, Fla. 33573

• Oct. 26: Lynn University, 3601 N. Military Trail, Boca Raton, Fla., 33431

• Nov. 11:  Bayview Senior Center, 2000 E. Lloyd St., Pensacola, Fla. 32503.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ call center is staffed with trained analysts who can respond to questions about programs and regulations under the department’s purview, provide information on a wide variety of topics or direct callers to the appropriate government agency.
